Seriously?! Ridiculous decision to leave out someone due to one not so good result knowing it doesn't reflect their recent form! This whole section process needs to be radically improved.

Well done everyone who made the team but I think that you should take in to consideration some of the other comps as well:(

How come the selection criteria never seems to be followed? Seems a bit unfair

Hi - is there another selection event in the March assessment as there was last year or is that it for the next year

Hi All,

The selection criteria for the team is followed every year when selecting the following seasons team and other events are taken into account, but the results from the December OYE do make up the main basis of the selection. Slots in categories are well contested but at the same time, slots will not be filled if there is no one climbing at the right level to warrant a place on the team.

If you feel that the criteria has not been followed correctly please contact me at rob@thebmc.co.uk

Regarding the assessment - details of this have been sent direct to team members.

Cheers

So whilst the team selection based on the Dec has been made selection continues throughout the year as per the selection criteria below:

• December: BMC Open Youth Bouldering Event – this is Round 1 of the Junior British Bouldering Championships.

• March: Inaugural Team Training event. This is an invite only event. It is not a competition, but competition style blocs are set. Some boulderers who were not selected at the December Youth Open may be invited to this event so that the Selection Committee can see how they perform on these. If they perform well it is possible that they could be selected for the Team.

• May: MCofS Scottish Youth Bouldering Championships – This is Round 2 of the Junior British Bouldering Championships.

• August: BMC Open Youth Bouldering Event – this is the Final Round 3 of the Junior British Bouldering Championships.

The important point to keep stressing is that a competitor can be selected for one of the GB Teams, at any of the events listed above if their performance meets the required levels. These levels are set out in detail below.

Yes that is absolutely true, competitors can and have been in the past invited onto the team on the back of superb performances at the various events you have listed, even though they have missed or not done as well at the December event after which the new years team is announced every year.

However at the end of each season the team management select a team consisting of team members who have done well throughout the year and any new talent that has appeared and done well at domestic events during the year, but of course the team management will make decisions based on form that is as current as possible i.e. likely to carry over into next years season, which is mainly based on the results from the December Open Youth event.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Thanks Rob - so in the spirit of openness and providing impetuous to continual development ; in 2013 how many people were selected for the team during the events throughout the year ?

Maybe we should not discuss what happened or didn't happen last year, but rather focus on what is going to happen this coming year. At least that's my view.
It would be interesting to know what the actual selection criteria are, at what events new selections could be made and who the members of the comitee that makes the decisions actually are.

In response to:

9) I have asked the team management about this and will get back to you when they get back to me.

10) The selection criteria is available here - www.thebmc.co.uk/Handlers/DownloadHandler.ashx?id=1024 - and the junior team management team is made up of Ian Dunn, Tom Greenall, Lucinda Whittaker, Clive Phillips and Tony Smith.

Will the lead team be getting an assistant team manager for 2014?
Rob Adie(author comment)
02/01/2014
In response to number 9 - here is the team managers response to the question.

2014 Team

We used the December event as the prime selector.

In the Junior Boys Buster Martin and Connor Byrne were selected based on EYC finalists in 2013 and also based on Connors result at the BLCC Junior and Senior.

Kitty Morrison was also picked for Youth C based on her BLCC result as well as her Youth Open result.

2013 Team

Charlotte Garden based on her semi final in the Worlds and EYC Final in Edinburgh.

Cheers

Rob
