It may seem like only five minutes since last year’s Kendal Mountain Festival, yet the dawn of this year's festival is quickly approaching (19-22 November).
'Kendal' is the biggest event of its type in Europe and is the main social event for outdoor enthusiasts in the UK. This year sees even more festival venues with hundreds of film screenings and over 50 great speakers and special guests, making this a must-do long weekend in the Lake District.
The BMC has been a long-time supporter of the festival. This year we’re hosting a reception for the Boardman Tasker Prize for mountain literature on the Friday, and on Sunday you can hear about some of the most innovative and pioneering expeditions which have recently received grant support from the BMC, the Mount Everest Foundation and the Alpine Club. Come and say hello to us on the BMC stand in the Festival Marquee, where we will be dispensing information and advice all weekend. We will also be launching the latest addition to our British Mountain Map series, Dartmoor, and the new Roaches guidebook.
The long festival weekend is always a great social occasion and gives a chance to get inspired, get outdoors or kick back indoors and watch some great films. If you’re planning some lakeland climbing and walking then the recently updated Lakes Green Guide is the place to read up about environmental advice. It’s hot off the press, or pixels as the case may be, at www.thebmc.co.uk/lakesgreenguide
Festival tickets are now available. Book online at www.mountainfest.co.uk or call the box office on +44 (0)1539 725133.
