Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) is the most popular mountain in the UK and the effect this has on people who work and live in the area, as well as those who come to enjoy the highest peak in Wales is significant. The Snowdon Partnership wants to hear the views of all users and stakeholders to develop and deliver the best possible management of this iconic mountain.
The problems of overcrowding, erosion, parking ,challenge events, over grazing and the myriad of many other issues on Yr Wyddfa and its neighbouring peaks are huge and have been the subject of much debate and discussion by many people and organisations for the last few years. Last year the BMC raised the profile of these issues in a hard hitting and controversial web article entitled "Snowdon isn't Working" and also hosted an open debate on the subject at the LLAMFF film festival in the spring of this year.
Following on from this, Snowdonia National Park have risen to the challenge and have formed the "Snowdon Partnership", made up of various land-owning, conservation and other local groups to look at creating and implementing a management plan for Snowdon. The group comprises those who represent the organisations and landowners that are responsible for on the ground management of the mountain - ranging from those responsible for conservation work and path management to tourism, farming and mountain rescue.
While users groups and recreational bodies are not currently represented on the partnership, the group are now seeking the views and opinions of all stake holders and those user groups and individuals that have an interest in the future management of Snowdon.
A number of drop in sessions have been arranged where members of the public can make their views known while an evening open seminar (prior booking essential) has also been arranged.
