Rab grabs 8a

Posted by Tina Gardner on 23/05/2007

Congratulations to BMC Vice President Rab Carrington, who has just redpointed his first 8a sport climb.

8a may no longer be cutting edge, but it's still a magic grade, and a pretty good effort for someone who was a leading mountaineer in the 1970's, and will be 60 years young later this year.

The route in question wasn't Lower Pen Trwyn's Statement of Youth, but was in fact New Age Traveller, 20 metres of sustained, fingery climbing at Yorkshire's Malham Cove.

Since Rab only broke through the 7C barrier two years ago, we reckon he hasn't peaked yet.
