Following the Royal ascent of the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act (NERC), two new organisations, Natural England and the Commission for Rural Communities, are due to be formally established on 1st October.
Cath Flitcroft, BMC Access & Conservation Officer said, “The BMC welcomes this legislation. It’s encouraging to see a national organisation embracing access and recreation alongside the conservation of our natural environment". Natural England partners are currently preparing a strategy on Outdoor Recreation covering Natural England’s work on improving factors such as healthy lifestyles, tourism and leisure, managing the land to improve and extend access and providing for disabled groups. The strategy will be available for public consultation in the summer.
