The North of Tyne Search and Rescue Team are raising funds to acquire a Mobile Incident Control Centre and to help boost efforts they have applied to the Big Lottery Fund for help.
After months of hard work the Team’s application has been chosen as a finalist of the People’s Millions; this is a fund available to Community Projects via the Big Lottery.
The project will be featured on the Tyne Tees regional evening news programme on Monday 23rd November 2009.
Supporters and the viewing public will be asked to choose between a selection of projects from the area. The one that receives the most votes that day will be declared the winner and offered an award worth up to £50,000.
Therefore NOTSRT is asking for the support of BMC members to vote for their project. To help them reach their goal they ask you to phone the allocated number which will be advertised on the websites below and in the Daily Mirror on Monday 23 November. A call from a landline will be charged as a local call rate and you will be allowed to vote 10 times from each of your telephone numbers from 09.00 hrs up to midnight on the day. Each vote cast will bring the Team one step closer to raising the funds needed for the Mobile Incident Control Centre and in their words “help us to help those in need”

Each year a significant number of vulnerable people require the help of search and rescue services. The North of Tyne Search and Rescue Team works closely with the emergency services to provide technical expertise in the location, extraction and medical stabilisation of those in need in the region.
With increasing demands being placed on the wholly voluntary service they need to raise funds to purchase a Mobile Incident Control Centre to co-ordinate our search operations in both urban and rural environments.
The multi-functional vehicle will greatly enhance operational effectiveness:
• manage operations at the site of an incident
• provide state-of-the-art search technology
• equipped with the latest communication control systems
In addition, it will help the Team meet objectives:
• to provide a fast, efficient search and rescue service to the communities of Northumberland and Tyne and Wear
• to raise awareness and to educate our community about how to reduce the risks of getting into trouble and of how the team functions
• to support Team fund raising activities that allow us to support other organisations safe access to the countryside.
Thanks from the Team to all who choose to vote to help them on their mission.
