John Evans, a well-respected climber and member of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue, has died following an accident whilst on a social climb in the Llanberis Pass in Snowdonia on Tuesday.

John fell whilst descending from Clogwyn y Grochan after completing a climb.

John had been a member of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation for over 36 years. He instructed in Mountain Rescue technical ropework, Wilderness First Aid and Search Management - a job that took him all over the world.

The BMC extends its condolences to John's family and friends.

There is an obituary on the Ogwen MRT website.  Reports are also on the BBC website, Grough and UKC.
