A Medex Mountain Medicine and High Altitude Physiology Course is being held at Plas y Brenin, aimed at all doctors interested in altitude, wilderness and travel medicine.
This course (Sat 1st – Mon 3rd Dec 2012) is based on previous successful courses held since 1993. It is aimed at all doctors in both primary and secondary care interested in altitude, wilderness and travel medicine. It also forms an integral part of the Mountain Medicine Diploma.
Organised by Dr Peter Barry, University of Leicester, topics covered will include: recognition and treatment of common medical problems in the wilderness on mountains including a systematic review of physiology at altitude, pathology and management of altitude induced illness; chronic mountain sickness; mountain sports psychology; hypothermia and frostbite; management of musculoskeletal injury in the wilderness; rock climbing injuries; remote dentistry; skin problems; mountain rescue; expedition planning; medical kits; and other travel and mountain medicine related issues.
Speakers include: John West, Jim Milledge, John English, Jean-Paul Richalet, Erik Swenson, Jim Litch, David Hillebrandt, Brownie Schoene, Rachel Bishop, Rob Roach, and Andy Pollard.

The course costs £550, including all accommodation and catering, plus a copy of latest edition of High Altitude Medicine & Physiology by West, Schoene and Milledge.
