Research has revealed that George Mallory was as well dressed to climb Everest in 1924 as some of today’s climbers.
Having spent a few weeks last month on Everest testing out replicas of Mallory’s clothing, mountaineer Graham Hoyland found that not only was the clothing comfortable and sufficiently warm to summit, but other climbers thought it was stylish too! This is the result of a three-year Mallory Replica Project headed by Professor Mary B Rose and Mike Parsons both of Lancaster University Management School’s Institute for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (IEED).
Professor Rose said, "The replicas help answer some of the questions of today’s outdoor equipment innovators." You can read more about the findings on the
Lancaster University website The
Mountain Heritage Trust supported the development of the project and are the owners of the replicas.
