A major rock fall has occurred at the sports cliff of Oxwich Bay Quarry, on the Gower, affecting many routes. Climbers are asked to avoid the area until CCW have inspected the site and carried out safety works at the site.
The Countryside Council for Wales who manage Oxwich Bay as a National Nature Reserve have been in contact with the BMC to advise that a major rockfall has occurred at Oxwich Bay Quarry, on the Gower in South Wales.
They are advising the public to keep clear since further rockfalls are likely as the rock is incredibly unstable. Large sections of the cliff appear to have peeled off, depositing huge blocks up to 10 tons in size on the rocky beach below the cliff.
It's not yet known what routes have been affected, but local BMC access rep Mark Winder is in contact with the land owners and local CCW Warden, and will keep us updated.
