Maeshafn Quarry - latest.

Posted by Guy Keating on 01/08/2007

Yesterday, Guy Keating (BMC Access & Conservation Officer) met the owner of Maeshafn Quarry to discuss the climbing ban at this quality venue.

The landowner has recently submitted a planning application to reactivate the quarry, which could mean the eventual loss of the crag. Discussions centred on the local value of the crag, future operations, and the climbing ban – a situation we hope to resolve soon.

The BMC has also just learned that Flintshire County Council have rejected the planning application and made ‘a recommendation to make and serve a prohibition order to prevent further quarrying.’ The landowner has the right to appeal against this decision.

As the landowner lives close to the quarry entrance and will enforce the access ban, please do not climb at Maeshafn for the time being.

Watch this space for updates.
