Temporary access closures to the Dinorwig slate quarries at Llanberis are planned during June due to filming of a major Warner Brother movie, intriguingly involving Tarzan!
Closure orders to the public footpaths crossing and leading to the Upper Dinorwig slate quarries above Llanberis have been issued by Gwynedd Council which may lead to the closure of these paths for up to 7 unspecified days during June. This is to allow a part of a major feature movie to be filmed in the slate quarries (allegedly a Warner Bros movie featuring Tarzan!).
First Hydro, the owners of the site, expect that the filming will only take less than three days and will work with the movie production company to do all they can to minimise the duration that the path will be closed. The filming, planned for June will potentially imact on access to the upper Dinorwig slate quarries.
This will obviously potentially or temporarily affect access to areas such as Twll Mawr, Australia, California and Seamstress and possibly to some of the levels below the main access path. Climbers are asked to be patient while the filming takes place, as access for climbing to the whole of the quarry is still officially not permitted by the land owners due to concerns regarding liability and safety issues. It's likely that further signage and stewards will be in place to advice the public when the closure takes place.
Other areas such as the Vivian Quarry, Bus Stop Quarry and Rainbow slabs/walls are not likely to be affected by this filming and the current access situation to this area remains unchanged.
First Hydro make it clear on the signage that access through the quarry is only allowed along the public footpaths and that the site contains considerable hidden dangers.
