Lakeland pioneer Ray McHaffie suffered a heart attack and died on 14 December.
From his base in Keswick, Ray was a prolific new router, particularly in the Borrowdale valley, for over three decades. Known to many simply as Mac, Ray will be remembered not just for his climbing achievements, but also his tireless footpath repair work, which he undertook for the National Trust. He’ll also be remembered for climbing the Shepherd’s Crag classic Little Chamonix wearing boxing gloves and roller skates! Ray’s funeral is at Carlisle Crematorium on Tuesday 20 December at 2pm.
