Access restrictions are threatening one of the world's greatest waterfall-ice climbing areas - the Ghost River Valley in the Canadian Rockies. Sign the online petition against the proposals.
We've just been notified about proposals to severely restrict vehicular access and camping in one of Canada's premier ice climbing venues. The valley contains a high concentration of the finest waterfall-ice climbs in Canada and is home to classics such as This House of Sky, Fang and Fist, Rainbow Serpent, The Sorcerer, and Hydrophobia. The quality and consistency of the climbing has attracted climbers from all over the world.
Local climbers have tried to ascertain the reasons for the restrictions and closures, but have met with little co-operation from the Government of Alberta. They have been advised that they have only until this Friday (30 September) to petition their case, and are seeking support from the international climbing community.
