Off on that road trip of a lifetime but need to earn some cash before you go? Just finished uni but not ready to enter the rat race yet? Got a few months to spare and need flexible work to fit around your climbing? If any of these sound like you, read on…
The BMC’s Regional Access Database (RAD) is the main way we get access messages out to climbers and it’s getting an overhaul in 2015 to make it more user friendly. We’re looking for a keen climber to get involved with a short term project to improve the existing RAD, help bring it up to date and make it an even more useful resource for the average climber.
As it stands, the RAD only contains the details of crags which have experienced an access issue that climbers need to be informed about. This can be anything from a climbing restriction for nesting birds, to asking climbers to use a particular path to get to the crag.
However, crags which have never experienced any access issues don’t currently feature on the RAD which can lead to confusion with users. As part of a wider improvement to the software to bring the database up to date and more useful, we are now recruiting for a temporary (3 month) contract to input the basic crag information into RAD for all missing crags.
If you’re a keen and experienced climber with an attention to detail, who knows their way around a guidebook and has a few months free to earn some cash, this could be the job for you. Send us your application and you could be a part of improving the most important tool the BMC has to keep crags open whilst earning some cash to fund that next climbing trip.
