Today, February 2nd, 2011 at 11:28 am PKT (Pakistan Standard Time), The North Face Athletes Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards reached the Summit of Gasherbrum II at 8,035m

This is the first 8,000er to be climbed in Karakorum in the Winter Season. Simone, Denis and Cory are now descending from the Summit to Camp 3. In a Satellite Phone call from the top Simone said "It has been very hard, but the three of us feel well".  This is Simone Moro's third 8,000er Winter Ascent: Shisha Pangma (2005), Makalu (2009), Gasherbrum II (2011). This is Denis Urubko's second 8.000er Winter Ascent: Makalu (2009), Gasherbrum II (2011). Cory Richards is the first American to summit a 8,000m peak in winter season.

The team will take approximately two days to descend to base camp, when we'll no doubt hear more.
