In what has been an extremely busy season on Everest, a notable achievement has been Tori James who became the first Welsh woman to climb Everest. Aged 25, Tori who lives in London but is originally from Pembrokeshire, is also the youngest British female Everest summiteer.
Tori summitted Everest on 24 May 2007 from its South side, having spent 57 days trekking in Nepal. Tori makes up one quarter of ‘The Everest 2007 Team’, which originates from the London Business School Rock & Mountain Club. South African Greg Maud, 33 and Egyptian Omar Samra, 28, joined Tori in achieving this monumental feat by reaching Everest’s summit on 17 May and Londoner Ben Stephens, 27, summiting on 24 May. Omar also became a record breaker himself, becoming the first Egyptian to reach the top. The team was led by British guide Kenton Cool of Dream Guides, who in reaching the top has become the first-ever Britain to accomplish the feat four times. The team hope they will have raised at least £45,000 for The Prince’s Trust.
In 2005, Tori became the youngest ever female to complete The Scott Dunn Polar Challenge (360-mile race to the Magnetic North Pole). Her mountaineering experience includes the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and the world's sixth highest mountain, Cho Oyu (8,201m).
