The BMC is supporting the Ramblers' petition asking the Government to speed up the roll-out of important new coastal access in England. We need your help in backing this campaign!
We’re sure you already know this, but guess what? People really do like to be beside the seaside. A recent study from the European Centre for Environment and Human Health found that of all the places people like to unwind, the coast is the best. It doesn’t matter how old you are or where you come from. Even among walkers, it seems the seaside is tops.
That’s why the BMC is so keen to see progress in rolling out the England Coast Path. Now we want your help in remind the Government of just how important this is for the wellbeing not just of climbers and hill walkers but the whole nation.
We’re joining forces with the Ramblers to send a petition to the Coalition to hurry up improving coastal access in England. We want the Government to deliver the Marine and Coastal Access Act (2009). We want as many climbers and hill walkers as possible to sign.
So far just one 32km stretch of the Dorset coast has been dedicated. Work is underway in six other areas of the country and there are signals that more progress may come soon. But we want the Government to get the message that we want the whole of England’s coast included as soon as possible.
Next month Wales launches its own coastal footpath, extending around the entire country. England’s version will be even better, with extra rights to spread out from the linear route. This ‘spreading room’ is really important to climbers, but a beneficial social change for everybody as well as a great boost to English tourism.
Let the Government know that you want to see that happen sooner rather later.
Sign the petition.
