Watch out: there's a thief about... in the Peak District.

Further car break-ins have been reported over the past few months at car parks in the Stanage/Burbage area .

Following a long incident free period lasting until July this year, an increasing number of car break-in's are being reported at the Stanage and Burbage car parks.

It's worth taking extra care not to leave any valuables on display, and perhaps going as far as to completely empty your car at these venues, leaving the glove box open and parcel shelf off to demonstrate to thieves that there is nothing in your car worth taking.

Derbyshire Police are now carrying out targeted vehicle crime patrols at selected car parks around the Peak District. If you see anyone acting suspiciously, please dial 101 and report it.

"A long incident free period"? Sounds like someone was in jail for a while then, so hopefully police are looking at recently releases offenders!!!!

With all the cut backs, reductions in child benefits, etc. roberies and car breakins are easy targets for people to make up cash shortages. When will the government learn. Whenever they take benefits from people, there are a certain element that cares about nothing else but themselves and are not interested in the devastation and pain they cause to others.

You may be right as to the reason the thief is steeling but paying people so that dont commit crimes against you is called extortion, That is not acceptable either way.

"leaving the glove box open". A lot of cars have illuminated glove boxes. Leaving the light on for several hours may have an unwanted effect when you return and try and start the car...
