The South Wales Action Group (S.W.A.G.) have organised a gathering for your delight and delectation in mid April. The theme of the evening is bolts...their place in the region, their reason for being there in the first place and plans for the future.
Many climbers are relatively new to the local scene and have no concept of bolt policies, local agreements or anything else along those lines. The current bolt policy is over 8 years old and many feel that the time is right to review and publicise it. It's also a chance for those new to climbing in the region to learn about the policy, ask questions, find out about it's raison d'etre, and to talk to people involved in the policy's formulation. Dan Middleton, the BMC's bolts guru, will be there to talk about setting up a regional bolt fund, and to discuss the options for bolting in the region.
He will also be there to offer BMC funded training for those interested in learning how to bolt safely. The topic of (rotting) fixed gear will no doubt come up at some point during the evening.
It's important to be clear about what this meeting is Not:- It's not a bolt debate, with people arguing back and forth about the rights and wrongs of bolting. It is not a wholesale restructuring of the policy. It's prime functions are to inform local climbers, and to encourage progress and openness in the world of South Wales bolts.
The meeting will be at Dynamic Rock in Swansea, at 7.30pm on Thursday 17th April. Excellent refreshments will be provided, and everyone is welcome!
For further info, contact either SWAG via Dynamic Rock, or the BMC via Dan Middleton (0161 438 3326) or Martin Kocsis
See you there!
