Today the BMC has embarked on a period of consultation with a small number of employees as a result of proposed structural changes to the staff team within GB Climbing and the Commercial Department.
The landscape we are operating in has changed dramatically over the past 12 months and the BMC is facing significant cost pressures within the GB Climbing Programme and the wider BMC. Following the appointment in February of new CEO, Paul Ratcliffe, there has been notable work to understand the financial landscape, and these proposals are designed to build a more sustainable foundation for the organisation moving forwards across key areas of the business.
We have already taken significant steps to reduce costs internally and refocus around core areas of work. It should be noted that no decisions have been made and we will explore alternative options through the consultation process to protect employees as much as reasonably possible and ensure our priority areas of work are safeguarded. It is expected that this process will take place over the next four weeks, and we aim to share any changes towards the end of May.
We ask for understanding and support in treating colleagues with empathy and sensitivity, whilst we navigate this period of uncertainty.
