As part of the BMC's campaign against the proposed Mottram-Tintwistle bypass, we were invited to present our objections to Dr Stephen Ladyman (Transport Minister) on Monday, 13th.
Held at the Dept. of Transport headquarters in London, the BMC Regional A&C Officer accompanied representatives from The Council for National Parks, The Ramblers Association, Transport 2000, Friends of the Peak District, and the local Save Swallows Wood campaign.
The Minister and his team heard the various objections to the scheme, with the BMC's focussing on the loss of climbing at Harry's and John Henry quarries, the effect on the Longdendale Trail, the popular Marsden - Edale walk, the Pennine Way, the loss of CRoW Open Access land, and the imposition on the boundary and landscape of a National Park.
Following discussions, the Minister agreed further examination of the alternatives would be required and another meeting will be arranged before the case goes to public enquiry in the new year.
