Southern sandstone enthusiasts dined and danced on Saturday 13 March in celebration of the BMC's recent takeover of ownership of Harrison's Rocks.
Around one hundred BMC members and local climbers attended the BMC Sandstone Celebration Dinner Dance at the High Rocks Inn, Tunbridge Wells. Many made a day of it by climbing at the crag prior to the successful evening event.
The BMC formally thanked Bob Moulton, former chair of the Harrison's Rocks Management Group (HRMG), who has been involved with the HRMG since 1997 and who has played a key role in securing ownership for the BMC.
Harrison's Rocks, located near Groombridge on the Kent/Sussex border, has been managed by the BMC on behalf of the Sport England Trust for the past twelve years. The transfer of ownership of the rocks and surrounds to the BMC was completed in September 2009. Woodland management plans have been put in place and two clean-ups by volunteers in January have already helped to improve conditions at the crag. The Sandstone Volunteer Group (SVG)comprises individual and club climbers, as well as others who have an interest in maintaining the rock and environment of the sandstone crags in Kent and East Sussex. The crag continues to be managed by the BMC's HRMG on behalf of the newly established BMC Land and Property Trust, ensuring access for climbers in perpetuity.
