Following the establishment of a new partnership structure, the BMC have partnered with Serious Climbing as GB Climbing claims first Gold Medal during qualification season for Paris 2024 Olympics.

Serious Climbing, a distributor of climbing holds and walls, is our ‘Official Climbing Holds and Wall Supplier’ of the BMC. As a significant player in the sector, both nationally and internationally, it will be supplying holds, macros and volumes across the BMC’s national events series. Rockcity, the climbing hold manufacturer distributed by Serious Climbing, will be supplying GB Climbing’s elite training facility, Unit E, in Sheffield. Serious Climbing is also the UK distributor for wall manufacturer, Dreamwall.

Serious Climbing supported the recent IFSC World Cup held in Edinburgh last September and will be working with the BMC in the bid to bring future international events to the UK, making it a global platform for the sport, as well as developing the delivery of national events.

As a recent addition to the Olympic family, sport climbing continues to grow in popularity alongside the infrastructure for the GB Climbing national team. Following a debut appearance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and ambition to become a world-leading sport climbing nation, the team are now into the 2023 World Cup Series where qualification points for Paris 2024 Olympic Games are on the line, as well as a crucial opportunity to develop talent for LA 2028 Olympic Games.

Most recently, GB Climber Toby Roberts fought to the bitter end to claim Gold medal at the IFSC Boulder World Cup in Brixen, Italy. With a roaring crowd psyching him up and urging him on to the top, Toby claimed his first Boulder World Cup gold medal, and the first GB Men’s gold in Boulder since Andy Earl back in 2007.

Rockcity holds will be used at the upcoming British Boulder Championships in Sheffield on 1-2 July.

Gavin Finch, Chief Commercial Officer at the BMC, the national representative body for climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers - with over 80,000 members, said; “I am very happy to announce a further new partner for the BMC and GB Climbing.

“Serious Climbing are a significant brand within the sector and we are looking forward to working with them as we look to grow the delivery of our national events and to bring international climbing events to the UK. Indoor and sport climbing is growing in popularity and we have the Paris 2024 Olympics around the corner, working with passionate and motivated brands and organisations that share our values and goals is vital as we look to grow the profile of the sport and encourage more people onto the walls.

“We have spent some time designing and establishing a cohesive, integrated programme that provides brands with clear and distinct opportunities to partner with us to meet their objectives. We welcome Serious Climbing, Rockcity and Dreamwall into the BMC family and look forward to working in collaboration over the coming years.”

Lorraine Brown, Head of Performance, GB Climbing at the BMC, said: “It’s great to have quality suppliers working with the GB Climbing Team. Using IFSC (International Federation for Sport Climbing) approved products that feature on the international World Cup circuit is crucial for giving our athletes the best chances to succeed on the international stage. This insight from a manufacturers perspective will be invaluable in the build up to the Paris 2024 Olympics and beyond.”

Mark English, Managing Director Rockcity Climbing Holds and Serious Climbing Distribution, said: “Rockcity Climbing Holds are excited to be working with the BMC and GB Climbing to help the athletes access the best of our World Cup and Olympic equipment, along with both Dreamwall and Serious Climbing, supporting the work to raise the bar in UK event delivery and International events.

“We look forward to the relationship being a key element of the GB Climbing Team making gains at the same pace as the athletes have been doing this season on the international stage.”
