Avon fence 'getting damaged'

Posted by Guy Keating on 09/07/2008

A note of caution for Avon climbers.

We have received reports the new fence above the Exploding Galaxy Wall area is suffering due to belays being set at the top of the fence, not the base.
Its 'bad practice' and exerts leverage forces on the fence posts, which in turn is loosening the fixing bolts in the stonework.
Please remember your basic physics, keep leverage to a minimum when setting belays.
