Conrad Anker and Leo Houlding are due to start an Everest summit attempt tomorrow (Friday 8 June) as part of an expedition which has been retracing the steps of George Mallory and Sandy Irvine's fateful journey for a docu-drama.
Friday marks 83 years to the day since Mallory was last seen alive and the team hopes to summit in 1920s replica clothing. There is still strong debate as to whether Mallory and Irvine could have reached the summit of Everest.
To recreate the story, the expedition team has been using similar mountaineering equipment and clothing as the mountaineers did in 1924. The production team consulted Mountain Heritage Trust to gain knowldge about the Trust's recent Mallory Replica Clothing Project. The film-makers took sketches and measurements of clothing from the replica project and employed one of the replica clothing makers - historical knitter Joyce Meader - to make their expedition kit.
In the docu-drama Conrad Anker, who found Mallory's body on Everest in 1999, will play Mallory and climber Leo Houlding will play Irvine.
