A significant rockfall has occured at this BMC owned and managed crag. Climbers are advised to take great care if intending to climb here and to consider alternative venues until a full investigation can be carried out.
Aldery cliff is a BMC owned and managed crag in the Peak District. With over 50 routes, mainly in the easier and mid grades, it can be a good sheltered and accessible venue. Located near the village of Earl Sterndale, this traditional limestone crag was gifted to the BMC over 25 years ago.
At one time it was the site of a working quarry and loose rock continues to be issue.
The BMC has just been informed that there has been a significant rockfall in the last few days and a number of climbing routes have been affected. There still appears to be a substantial amount of loose rock and anybody intending to climb at this venue are advised to exercise great caution or even avoid the venue until a full investigation has been carried out.
It's likely that the car parking area at the base of the crag has been affected and climbers and other should not park inside the gate until further notice.
