A June weekend of frolicking by the sea. Friendly crags, sunny boulders – a national park of wild moorland to explore! Whether you’re operating at Diff or E10, the North York Moors will lay a soothing balm of unparalleled euphoria on your soul.

What’s happening?

The first ever North York Moors BMC Festival – this June. It’s a chance to get to know a new favourite spot, revisit the region’s classics, meet new people and tinker about in secluded valleys and on mind-blowing cliffs. The event will run from 16-18 June, with events indoors on the Friday and Saturday nights.

What are the North York Moors?

Moors! The historic mineral railways of the high plateau boast top views and remote tracks. The skylines are littered with small outcrops and broken by beautiful patches of ancient forest. To the east lies the spectacular North Sea – home of mad gulls and crashing waves.

Where is ‘the Moors’?

The North York Moors National Park is located on the east coast of England, between Leeds and Newcastle. The area is split between crusty old coastal villages and rural upland hamlets. The climbing and walking takes on all of these scapes, with quirky sandstone crags and trails inland, and hidden gems dotted along the coast.

The event will be based at Fletcher’s Farm campsite, near Great Ayton. This is the ideal spot from which to walk the Cleveland Way or climb at the classic Park Nab, Ingleby Incline, Wainstones and Scugdale. From Fletcher’s Farm, it’s also not far to dart over to the sunny Yorkshire coast.

What can I do?

Whether your thing is bouldering by the sea, exploring the largest patch of heather moorland In Europe, unearthing undocumented crags, ticking classic HVSs, learning about the way people used to live in the Moors, adventure climbing on Whitestone Cliffe, or just eating Fish & Chips – the Moors has it.

On the weekend of the event there will be information in the central marquee on suggested venues for climbing, birdwatching, walking, biking and local pubs. Nearer the time we’ll be releasing information on the instructed outings, supported by BMC funding.

Who’s going?

Climbers and walkers are coming from all over – some even from beyond the UK. Feel free to have a look at the Facebook event page to keep a track of any news and what’s happening.

What do I need?

Camping is going to be £5 per night, which includes free food on the Saturday night. As there are likely to be lots of lifts going to far-flung crags, it’s a perfect opportunity to visit the North York Moors if you don’t have a car. We’re also lucky enough to have generous support from both the BMC and DMM, which means quiz prizes from our sponsors and hopefully some demo racks for the weekend.
