It's May, it's Wales, it's time for the jamboree that is TremFest 2016! Your chance to give something back to the crags you derive so much enjoyment from. Put the date in your diary - the weekend of 7th and 8th May - when work and play combine to celebrate all that is good about Tremadog.
TremFest is now well established as a fun climbing and crag revival festival. Climbers arrive at Bwlch y Moch in the morning armed with gardening tools, and leave at the end of the day having not only cleared paths, opened up overgrown routes, repaired stiles, trimmed overhanging vegetation and protected rare plants but also having had a great day's climbing and won some amazing prizes from the prize draw.
This year's TremFest starts on Saturday 7th May - just turn up at Eric Jones' Cafe , Bwlch y Moch at 10.00am (or the night before if you're really keen), ideally with a pair of gloves, some secateurs and a sickle and you'll be allocated a task to do or a route to clean.
Craig Bwlch y Moch is one of the crags owned by the BMC on behalf of climbers, and there is also an agreement over the management of the access paths to and from neighbouring Craig Pant Ifan. While these crags are obviously great natural features with amazing traditional climbing, the reality is that they need looking after. Without constant (and occasionally intense) management the approach paths would become overgrown, descent paths would collapse, boundaries would fail, rare plants would become extinct by competition from invasive vegetation, litter would remain uncollected.... and the list of essential tasks goes on!
This year some colossal path repairs are needed to restore the approach path to Vector Buttress following the collapse of pitch one of the popular route One Step in the Clouds
For those attending there is free accommodation on a first come first served basis at the campsite and the bunkhouse (please contact Eric Jones directly to book this on 01766 5122199).
After all the work has been done and following the infamous incredible prize draw - overseen by none other than Mr & Mrs TremFest, aka BMC volunteers Jim and Julia Kelly, there will be a free climbing talk in the evening at the cafe.
Oh... did we forget to say that there will also be free beer for those who've done some work...?
The event couldn't happen without the generous support of numerous local and national climbing businesses and retailers, so please be very nice to them in return and have a look at their websites and maybe pop into their shops to spend some cash.
Amongst the supporters are :- Mountain Equipment , DMM , Petzl/Lyon Equipment , Wild Country , Joe Brown Shops , The Mountain Boot Company , Beacon Climbing Centre , Plas y Brenin , Ground Up Guidebooks , Crib Goch Outdoor World , V12 Outdoor , Purple Moose Brewery , Pete's Eats , Superfeet and of course Eric Jones himself.
