Three British 60 year old mountain rescuers set off in June for the trip of a lifetime to Yosemite National Park, California, in aid of their local mountain rescue organisations.
Harold Burrows MBE, Roland Layland and Dave Fildes have between them amassed 120 years experience in search and rescue and thought, as they’re all 60 this year, that a ‘gentle’ stroll in Yosemite would be a good way to celebrate.
The trio intends to do a 17 mile hike on Half Dome classed as very strenuous and involving 4800 feet of ascent and descent. They may also hike to the top of El Capitan from Tamarack Flat. This is a round trip of 16.5 miles and classed as strenuous.
