Last month one of our members suffered a serious and painful encounter with a herd of cows. Although most cows are docile most of the time, they can be dangerous, particularly when protecting new-born calves; so be aware of the potential hazards and avoid an attack.

If you’re planning to climb in Cheddar Gorge this summer, make sure you are aware of the agreed access restrictions and stay off closed routes and crags, or you could jeopardise future climbing access for everyone.

Shauna Coxsey continues her strong challenge for the IFSC Boulder World Cup title, and in the European Youth Cup event in Imst, junior team captain Molly Thompson-Smith won gold for the first time.

We’re celebrating 70 years of the BMC in a number of ways this year; join us later this month at Stanage for a weekend of climbing masterclasses, guided walks and social events.

Take care around cows: warning for walkers
