Doug and Chris launch #ClimbForCAN

For 24-hours this Friday and Saturday, Sir Chris Bonington and Doug Scott will lead an ‘expedition’ to scale the height of Everest (8,848m) on the ice wall at King Kong Climbing Centre in Keswick and you can join them.

The challenge, called ClimbForCAN, will raise funds for Doug Scott's charity Community Action Nepal (CAN)'s earthquake appeal. Bonington and Scott will be joined by Leo Houlding and up to 200 members of the public.

To complete the expedition which starts at midday on Friday and finishes with a summit bid on Saturday 13 June, the team will need your help.  This special event will also commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first British ascent of Mount Everest in 1975, which was led by Bonington and put Scott on the summit.

There are still some places left starting at £35. Don't miss this unique experience to be part of a team including everyone from novices to climbing legends, raising money for Nepal together. Participants get a commemorative t-shirt and the chance to bid on the expedition clothing which has been donated by Berghaus.

Event organiser Rupert Bonington said: "We're gearing up for a fantastic event. We've had lots of interest from members of the public which is great, but we could really do with some more climbers to come along to add strength and experience to the team and help us beat the clock. We hope to see you there."
