Northumberland is England's most northern county, a magical place filled with ancient castles, golden sand beaches, rolling hills, rugged moorland and friendly little towns and villages. This latest addition to the Pocket Mountains series of walking guides is an affordable and practical guide to 40 of the best family walks in the region. Donegal, Sligo & Leitrim describes 30 walks in this fascinating part of the northwest of Ireland that has inspired poets, and is rich in folklore and history. terraQuest laminated maps use a special lamination process and patented map joining techniques, so the maps can be easily adjusted to your choice of format. New this month are two maps: a trekking map of Patagonia covers Fitzroy, Cerro Torre, the Perito Moreno Glacier and Torres del Paine; and a map of the highest peaks in Turkey shows Mount Ararat, the Kackar Mountains and Mount Suphan.
A Canvas of Rock is Mark Radtke’s collection of personal experiences and friendships with some of the influential climbers from the 1970s to the present day, and provides a rare insight and first-hand account on some of the crucial and at times contentious episodes that paved the way to today’s rock climbing scene. Echoes: one climber's hard road to freedom is the story of Nick Bullock’s journey of discovery, which takes him from the confines of life as a prison officer in a maximum-security jail to a new found sense of freedom in a life devoted to the mountains. Echoes is a powerful and compelling exploration of what it means to live life on your own terms.
The shortlist for the Boardman Tasker Prize for mountain literature was announced earlier, this month, and we’ve just added some of the shortlisted titles to the online shop: Here, there and everwhere… is Jim Curran’s rigorous self-portrait, in turns hilarious and heartbreaking. Into The Silence is a monumental work of history and adventure, ten years in the writing, in which Wade Davis asks not whether George Mallory was the first to reach the summit of Everest, but rather why he kept on climbing on that fateful day. The special – and all too often lethal – attraction of the second highest mountain on Earth is the subject of Richard Sale's fascinating new book, The Challenge of K2
The 2013 Boardman Tasker Calendar marks the 30th anniversary of the disappearance of Pete Boardman and Joe Tasker, last seen high on the North East Ridge of Mount Everest, heading for the summit in deteriorating weather. 12 stunning large format images celebrate two of the greatest ever British mountaineers, and provide a classic glimpse into an incredible period of British climbing history.
