The BMC would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everybody who contributed to the Sirhowy Crag Crowdfunder campaign, the total raised was an incredible £20,951 from 605 supporters. Here is an update as to what is happening with the funds.
Policy & Campaigns Officer (Wales) Eben Muse says, “Although we were unsuccessful in our efforts to purchase the crag, the campaign gave us an excellent platform to reach an agreement with the landowner to secure access to the site in future and may act as a template for similar campaigns where there is a need in future.
"All funds raised have been ringfenced for use at Sirhowy to enhance the experience of climbers there, to protect access and to improve the biodiversity of the crag. From the start we wanted this to be something we did together as a community, so please get in touch if you have ideas. We hope to be offering volunteering opportunities in the future!
"Among potential proposed developments at the crag is the removal of the ‘CLIMBING PROHIBITED’ signage previously at place there (their removal has already begun), informative signage acknowledging the funds raised by the community with a small map of the climbing areas and other helpful information, footpath work (as this has been one way to protect habitats at the site), bolt and anchor replacement. All of this will take time, but we will continue to update the BMC community who have been very engaged with this campaign so far."
Sirhywi Crag Crowdfunder
Hoffai’r BMC ddiolch o galon i bawb a gyfrannodd at ymgyrch Sirhywi Crag Crowdfunder, y cyfanswm a godwyd oedd y swm anhygoel o £20,951 gan 605 o gefnogwyr. Dyma ddiweddariad o'r hyn sy'n digwydd gyda'r cronfeydd.
Dywed Swyddog Polisi ac Ymgyrchoedd (Cymru) Eben Muse, “Er i ni fod yn aflwyddiannus yn ein hymdrechion i brynu’r clogwyn, rhoddodd yr ymgyrch lwyfan ardderchog i ni ddod i gytundeb gyda’r tirfeddiannwr i sicrhau mynediad i’r safle yn y dyfodol a gallai weithredu fel templed ar gyfer ymgyrchoedd tebyg lle bo angen yn y dyfodol. Mae'r holl arian a godwyd wedi'i glustnodi i'w ddefnyddio yn Sirhywi i wella profiad dringwyr yno, i ddiogelu mynediad ac i wella bioamrywiaeth y clogwyn a’r safle o’i amgylch. O'r dechrau roeddem am i hyn fod yn rhywbeth i ni ei wneud gyda'n gilydd fel cymuned, felly cysylltwch â ni os oes gennych syniadau. Rydym yn gobeithio cynnig cyfleoedd gwirfoddoli yn y dyfodol! ” Ymhlith y datblygiadau arfaethedig posibl ar y clogwyn mae cael gwared ar yr arwyddion ‘DIM DRINGO’ a oedd wedi’u gosod yno’n flaenorol (mae’r gwaith o’u tynnu eisoes wedi dechrau), gosod arwyddion newydd llawn gwybodaeth sy’n cydnabod yr arian a godwyd gan y gymuned gyda map bach o’r ardaloedd dringo ac arwyddion defnyddiol eraill, gwaith llwybrau troed (gan fod hyn wedi ei awgrymu fel un ffordd o warchod cynefinoedd ar y safle), gosod bolltau ac angorau newydd. Bydd hyn i gyd yn cymryd amser, ond byddwn yn parhau i roi’r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf i gymuned y BMC sydd wedi bod yn ymwneud yn fawr â’r ymgyrch hon hyd yn hyn!”
