Though better known for her supreme running achievements, Dame Kelly Holmes is also a keen rock climber. So it’s great to have her support for climbing’s Olympic bid in the run-up to the crucial IOC Executive Board meeting on 29 May, coincidentally the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of Everest.
At last month’s Spirit of Kinder Day commemorating the historic mass trespass of 1932, a warning was given that the Anti-Social Behaviour Bill currently before parliament threatens to make trespass a criminal offence; a timely reminder that despite the passing of 80 years the struggle for access continues.
