  • Mountain walking in Britain – including the use of crampons and ice axes
  • Recognised trekking routes with simple glacier crossings and simple ungraded scrambles
  • Via ferrata
  • Mountain-walking trips including adventurous treks in the Alps, Pyrenees, and lower routes in the Andes and Himalaya up to 5,000m
  • Non-technical ascents of easy trekking routes on peaks that do not require the use of technical climbing equipment.

This policy is for trekking above 5,000m, and most types of skiing, climbing and mountaineering on most peaks of up to 6,500m

  • Recreational skiing activities including: on-piste, off-piste (with or without a guide), cross-country/Nordic/Langlauf, dry slope/indoor slope, backcountry/ski touring, downhill, telemark, big-foot Skiing, mono-skiing, heli/cat skiing, glacier skiing and ski mountaineering
  • Scottish winter climbing, ice climbing and alpine climbing
  • All climbing in Europe and most peaks worldwide up to 6,500m
  • Trekking above 5,000m, other than in remote or inaccessible areas
  • Most trekking peaks in Nepal, standard trekking routes on Aconcagua, via Horcones-, Vacas- and Guanacos- Valleys

  • Competitive winter sports
  • Extreme skiing (unless agreed in writing), ski-jumping, paraskiing and kite-skiing
  • Freestyle (eg: aerials, big air, halfpipe, ski-cross and slopestyle)

This policy is for all mountaineering and climbing activities, including climbs and expeditions to very inaccessible regions and difficult or extreme high-altitude peaks anywhere in the world

What's Covered

  • Mountaineering and Climbing expeditions on peaks that exceed 6,500 metres, or lower peaks in remote and inaccessible regions; difficult or extreme high-altitude peaks anywhere in the world. This includes the high mountains of Asia and South America and the mountains of the Arctic and Antarctic. Additional activities as notified and agreed (e.g. yachting/crewing outside territorial waters, snowmobile use or using a rigid inflatable boat for logistical purposes).
