Barrow Scout Cove

Lancashire

A pleasant little crag, bolted routes on the whole but with a few trad lines thrown into the mix. Something for everyone with grades from F3-F7b+. April 2023: recently cleaned (thank you!) and in good condition.

The BMC has learned that palaeolithic man visited Barrow Scout Cove in Silverdale some 12,000 years before sport climbers: the unassuming cave and the area around the cave mouth are a scheduled site. The site is vulnerable so to preserve it and avoid any accidental damage, climbers have agreed not to go past route 14 (Pincher). Both Caveman and Going Underground must be avoided, other climbs to the left of the cave are still permitted.

Parking and Approach

Park in the large lay-by on the bend, just after Scout Crag Holiday Park (approaching from Warton/New Rd). Walk up the narrow path from the end of the lay-by for approx 50m.

Group Advice

Not really suitable, slightly awkward stances on the narrow path for some routes.
