Backdale Wood Quarry

Peak Limestone

Recently quarried limestone walls. Still quite loose. A handful of obscure routes with potential for a few more.

Crag information
Climbing Area: Peak District Rock Type: Limestone
Importance: Local CRoW Land: No
Ownership: Private No. of Routes: 8
Within National Park: Yes Year Developed: 2018
Grid Reference: SK231735

No access permitted. The quarry is no longer being worked for stone but the lower part of it is an active business storing stone from other quarries for transit elsewhere. The site is often in use and any climber is likely to be seen.

The rock is still loose and unstable in many places. Accessing the base of routes can involve traversing loose slopes over drop offs.

Parking and Approach

Park opposite the end of the track leading up to Deep Rake or in the large layby a short way north on the Calver to Hassop Road.
