Hoodstorth

Yorkshire Gritstone

A small outcrop with a very fine outlook and a few small (kiddy?) problems that provide for a moments entertainment. The rock is the best quality fine, silvery grit.

Parking and Approach

Follow the Thruscross road north from Blubberhouses, past the Stone House Inn crossroads and take the next left (Hoodstorth Lane) to park at the bridge over the Washburn. Hoodstorth can be accessed along the path from up the hill at Red Gate (alternative parking) but it is easier (and dryer) to cross to the north side, go through the wood and along the wall to gain the path. This approach is not totally on access land though the crag is.
