The Chasms

Isle of Man

A large and complex crag with a wide range of routes from short sound walls to large seacliffs. The climbing is generally quite steep. The Hut circle buttress is a good landmark to find routes from.

Restrictions apply from 1 March - 1 August.

Reason: Nesting Birds

Climbers are reminded that the Chasms and Sugarloaf cliffs are home to many nesting birds in the spring and summer.

Climber’s attention is drawn to the provisions of the 1990 Wildlife Act which makes it an offence if any person intentionally or recklessly:

(a) disturbs any wild bird included in Schedule 1 while it is building a nest or is in, on or near a nest containing eggs or young; or

(b) disturbs any nest or egg of such a bird; or

(c) disturbs dependent young of such a bird

Parking and Approach

Drive through Cregneash and up a narrow road towards the old radio antenna buildings and a rough car park (SC 191 667). Follow the steps & path down toward the old cafe. From here scramble down to the hut circle (ring of stones). Moving around the crag can prove frustratingly slow due to the terrain.
