In 2024 solicitors acting on behalf of the landowner stated that: “….access to the quarry will remain restricted and they do not consent to its use by any individual or organisation, whether that be for climbing or other activities.” Consent is therefore not granted to climb here and signage has been erected to reinforce this point. It is not yet clear if the statement is in effect a disclaimer or if the owner actively objects to climbing.
Jackdaws nest on the crag. Although the BMC doesn't restrict climbing for these prolific birds who are very resilient to potential disturbance, it would be best to avoid the crag whilst they are nesting so as not to attract negative attention from local residents.
Parking and Approach
There is a small parking space by a gate and the village sign on the right after the last buildings. Follow a path behind the gate heading towards the far side of the quarry (resist the temptation to go directly down the banking – there is much hidden glass). Keep left at a large twin stemmed tree, then continue to The Vineyard .
There is no authorised parking in the vicinity of the quarry and in particular, parking across the gated entrance to the quarry is not permitted, in particular the entrance should be kept clear of any vehicles at all times.
