Warton Parish Council will be felling more dead ash trees on 8/9 September. Climbing will not be possible due to hazard of falling trees.
from 08/09/2025 to 09/09/2025
The first of the Warton crags, with possibly the shortest walk-in in climbing history. The rock is generally solid, though some areas have ivy or small plants growing on them. Routes from Diff to E2. The quarry sees some group use so beware polish on easier routes. Plum routes are The Leaning Tower (VS 4c) and Quasimodo (E2 5c). The low traverse is excellent at V3. Sadly routes above the car park have been lost to nature. These routes normally have parked cars underneath and have been best avoided in the past.
Descent is via a path which comes out at the top end of the quarry. The abseil station in the middle of the quarry has been removed as has the dead ash tree which was so used.
The Parish Council has removed (2025) the dead ash trees from the floor of the quarry and has opened up the crag. In July 2025 extensive clearance work has taken place on the climbs and top outs. Most of the routes from Finale Wall to Delectable Traverse are now in good to very reasonable condition. Whilst the routes have been cleaned there may still be loose rock on some routes as they may have not been climbed for some time.
