Sergeant's Crag Slabs

These fine slabs are slightly below and to the right of Sergeant's Crag and give some of the best slab pitches in the Lakes!  The best routes are in the HVS-E2 range. Single pitches of about 45m.

Parking and Approach

On the right of the crag a tree has been used over the years to enable climbers to abseil from that section of the crag.  This tree is now looking fragile and climbers are advised to check out the soundness of the tree and if necessary look to access the abseil point on the left of the crag.  In June 2026 there has been a proposal to place another bolted abseil point here to replace the tree - this and other possibilities is being looked into,

Descent from the crag was subject to a lot of debate over ten years ago. A bolted abseil station was placed to replace the fallen tree on the left hand to provide an abseil descent and stop environmental damage with a descent path. Please do not attempt to descend the fragile slopes on either side of the crag.

Area information

With implimentation of the CRoW Act (2000), many Lakes fells and crags now have an Open Access designation. They also have many nationally important bird and plant species dependant on inaccessible crags/ledges and heather/mixed heath environments for survival. During the bird nesting period, a number of species can be vulnerable to disturbance. The Lake District restrictions are monitored, variable (VR) and reviewed in April/May. If the birds do not nest, restrictions are lifted early. Check notice boards in shops, walls and cafés in early May for details and the BMC and FRCC websites.
