Craig y Fotty \/ Clogau Bontdu

Snowdonia

One of the more accessible crags in the Rhinogs facing south west on the slopes of Clogau above the village of Bontdu on the Mawddach. Although approach is around 30 minutes from the car, it is quite steady and on good ground. There is an upper and a lower tier which have an excellent outlook over Cwm LLechan, with views of Diffwys all the way down the valley to the Mawddach estuary. Rock is of excellent quality Welsh grit. Some really enjoyable routes, with perhaps Titrwm Tatrwm being the best on the crag, which is well worth a visit if only to do that.

Area information

A wide range of cliffs - mainly traditional and multi pitch inc. the popular Llanberis Pass, Idwal Slabs, Clogwyn du'r Arddu and Cwm Silyn cliffs, but also outlying outcrops such as Carreg Alltrem. Many crags are on CROW access land - but not all especially some of the outcrops which lie on private enclosed land. Most of central Snowdonia is both designated an SSSI and also is an European Special Area of Conservation on account of the upland habitat and associated geology and plants found here.

Report received of a bird, possibly a kestrel, nesting on Titrwm Tatrwm. Please avoid both this and adjacent routes for the remainder of the nesting season until the end of July.
