Staden Quarry

Peak Limestone

High quality trad limestone quarry in an idyllic setting. The rock on the classic routes resembles unquarried natural limestone with pockets, cracks and the odd bit of flowstone, which is a joy to climb on. Other sections are more typical of climbing in a Peak limestone quarry.

Crag information

The landowner have made the BMC aware that they do not support climbing at the quarry, as is evident from the on site signage.

Anyone choosing to climb please keep your impact low - park sensibly, remove litter, keep noise to a minimum and leave if requested to. Please report any significant nesting activity on routes to the BMC (particularly ravens, peregrines, or kestrels).

The BMC strongly advise against bringing dogs to this crag. The land below the crag is used to graze cattle, this has to be crossed to reach the rock and has no barrier between the the field and the climbs. There have been incidents of cows attacking climbers here and the presence of dogs increases this risk. All climbers should be aware of the danger from cows and how to minimise the associated risks.

Kestrels have previously been reported nesting at the left hand end of Joint Effort wall. No reports have been received to date this year.

Parking and Approach

Park considerately at the bend in the road in the village of Cowdale - don't block gates, driveways, or the road itself. Residents have expressed support for continued climber access.
